Poet Nissy

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Poet Nissy moved to the South Bronx where she was exposed to the realities of her urban environment that profoundly shaped her artistic development. A constant struggle with domestic violence, poverty, and dire conditions while simultaneously seeing the undying commitment of her single mother allowed for her personal strength to develop and her love of the arts to bloom starting in the 5th grade. Talented yet humble, she has been able to perform in various places like the apollo theater, Nuyorican poets cafe, the Shomburg Center and the dreamyard center. She is currently attending her third year of college at hobart and william smith. Her aspirations are to be an actress and make positive contributions to her community.
