El David

Bronx NY native, El David, was influenced by funk, soul, & hip-hop. His lyrical talent got him a deal with RCA/ BMG Records. Due to creative differences, El walked away to create works that move the heart & soul.

El got into spoken word after hearing " the doo-doo Chasers" by Funkadelic. Published works include: "America's Brainchild", selected poetry in “Me No Habla with Acento”, edited by Emanuel Xavier, and "I'm Just Waiting", featured in, "The Bandana Republic" (Soft Skull Press). Mentored by Tito Cepeda, El performed for Bomba groups, Segunda Quimbamba & Cimarrones & sang lead at two Bomplenazos, a bi-annual festival showcasing the best Bomba groups from around the world. El also produced Cimarrones first album.

El produced “Familia Ache”, fusing hip-hop and Spoken word with rhythms of Bomba & Rumba. He coined this sound “Roots in Concrete”. In 2009 El David formed, Machete Movement, putting out two albums, “Roots in Concrete” & “Post No Bills”.

El released two socially conscious rap abums “Adult Guntemperhairy Musesick 4 da Streets” & “Sedition”. He produced “Word War I”, a compilation of artists to raise funds for the Puerto Rican Political Prisoners. El performed, "Libertad", on the "Freedom Album" whose proceeds supported the “Pro-Libertad Freedom Campaign”. El produced "Legendary-The Spoken Word Poetry of Emanuel Xavier".

Spring 2013, El David released his solo spoken word with music album titled "America's Brainchild", a collection spoken word recorded over the past 10 years & a solo Bomba Fusion project, “Calle Bomba”. As a visual artist he has sold-out two Art Festivals.

El has performed spoken word at the NuYorican Poets Café , El Museo Del Barrio, La Tea, Bowery Poetry Club and Capicu Cultural Showcase to name a few. Today, he is hitting stages across the city showcasing pieces from "The EL Word".
