Sami D.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Sami D has recently found her second home in the Bronx. She may not be a Bronx native but most of the poets and performers at Babble in the Bronx Open Mic have welcomed her with open arms. She first stepped onto the Spoken Word scene when she featured at her university’s freshmen talent show in 2009. Though she may be new to the stage, she’s been writing for years. Her first love of poetry helped her through the toughest of times, facing things that most 13 years old shouldn’t have to go through. Depression set in after her older brothers left home and she used writing as an outlet. Some say her ability to paint vivid pictures of her home life and past prove to move the crowd in ways no one could expect. She’s also been compared to a female version of Eminem. With her unique writing style and emotional attachment to whatever she writes, her performances are sure to have people on the edge of their seats. She recently has only been performing at Babble in the Bronx but hopes to take her talent to other places and pursue her dream of writing as a career.
